Shauna and Darren’s Story

My name is Shauna, 34 & and my partner is called Darren, 49 and we are from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

We were trying naturally for 9 years and in that time my husband had an op to reverse his vasectomy at a private hospital. We eventually raised enough money to have an egg share ivf/icsi cycle in September 2014. However sadly I only had 4 eggs collected from my right ovary as my left was being awkward and kept hiding so didn't have enough to share but went ahead with our cycle. Then had 2 embryos transferred at day 3 and then the wait to find out if any or both had implanted was hard and seemed to take ages. The day of my blood tests I took a few tests and all was positive I just couldn't believe it actually, I thought I was dreaming!

We were only expecting one to have implanted but when we went for our 1st scan at Jessop Fertility, though one was only faint, there was 2 heartbeats. We were shocked but so happy and excited! On our second & final scan at Jessop Fertility, both twins were growing lovely and we had to say our goodbyes to all the staff.

The pregnancy was up & down with a few scares. Then I went into labour at 32 week 3 days, we had a natural birth until our girl twin decided to start coming out breach so I was rushed into have an emergency C section on 18/04/2015. With them being born 8 weeks early our babies were very small (2lb 14 & 3lb) and were in neonatal unit for 6 and half weeks but they were beautiful, so strong and definitely our little fighters & miracles, now they are turning 6 this April!

The care at Jessops Fertility was brilliant, very understanding and professional. Throughout our time at Jessop’s we definitely felt looked after.
